Meet Ashley, the gal behind Smash-a-Craft

When I think of when my love of sewing and crafting began, I think of the incredible and talented women in my family…

My passion for sewing was born in the most magical place – my great-grandmother's craft room. I was just a kid when she first showed me how to transform thrifted treasures into something brand new, guiding me to make my very first bag and matching coin purse. Those precious pieces still hang in my studio today as reminders of where my sewing journey began.

Growing up I was surrounded by creative women, and have treasured memories of painting with my mom, making stained glass pieces with my grandmother, and building ceramic pots with my aunt. I am so grateful to these generations of artists in my family that inspired me to try new things, value upcycling and using the resources available to me, and see the creative talents within myself.

Fast forward to college, when my moms surprised me with a sewing machine for Christmas! My mom was studying interior design and had access to the most gorgeous high-quality upholstery fabric samples that I was able to use to learn. While I had zero formal training, I trusted my instincts and let my hands guide me. Soon I was crafting intricate purses and unique Halloween costumes that had friends and family lining up with custom requests.

Today, through Smash-a-Craft, I'm living my dream of creating every single day. My passion for crafting, creativity, and conservation weaves its way into every stitch, every design choice, and every class I teach. I believe deeply in the beauty of handcrafted creations and the stories they carry.

When you purchase one of my handmade goodies, you're not just buying a product – you're investing in artistry, sustainability, and a piece of my heart.

Whether I'm creating one-of-a-kind sewn treasures, teaching others to discover their inner artist, or breathing new life into beloved garments through upcycling and alterations, I put love into everything I do. I bring with me the magic of creating that was taught to me by the remarkable women of my family.

Welcome to my crafty world – I'm so excited you're here!
